Objectives of our Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality Management System

At Doyle Shipping Group, we regard safety, health and welfare as our highest priority, not only for our employees but also our business partners and customers, our suppliers, contractors and the general public.

Doyle Shipping Group is committed to delivering best in class safety. DSG work to achieve our safety objectives through professionalism, the rigorous compliance and application of regulations, skills management, incident investigation and implementation of lessons learnt.

The business environment in which we operate is an ever-changing landscape, operating within maritime and high-risk environments, and associated high-risk operations. For this reason, Doyle Shipping Group’s approach to management of safety, health, quality and the environment is a risk-based approach.

We set rigorous Health & Safety objectives each year; managing risk and reducing accidents and incidents is our critical deliverable objective.

Risk Based approach to Health and Safety

This risk-based approach ensures that we remain proactive and vigilant in identifying, eliminating, and mitigating workplace risks.

Doyle Shipping Group has a dedicated and committed Safety, Health, Environment and Quality department with dedicated personnel in each location. However, health and safety is not a stand-alone department or approach; consideration for health and safety, the environment and quality are integrated into the Group’s daily business operations. Our commitment to safety also helps to minimize environmental impacts.

We strive to develop and uphold a safety culture that is exemplary within the shipping industry. DSG achieves this through a top-down and a bottom-up approach; all employees, from senior management down, have a role in upholding and enhancing our Safety Culture.

Safety is a daily consideration in every aspect of DSG’s business. All employees share responsibility with management in ensuring their safety while at work. The company requires the co-operation of all staff, visitors, contractors and others to enable DSG to discharge its responsibilities under the law.

Commitment to Health and Safety

Senior management is committed to proving all required resources necessary for employees to achieve the desired high safety level. Senior management has assigned sufficient authority and resources, both financial and otherwise, and these resources are made available to enable staff to carry out their responsibilities safely and efficiently, each day, every day.

All managers and employees have a crucial role to play in upholding the importance of safety. Furthermore, interaction and intervention are at the heart of developing a health and safety culture, and we continually empower and encourage all employees, contractors and visitors to intervene when necessary. All personnel have the right and the obligation to call “ALL STOP” to any unsafe act or unsafe condition and have the full support of senior management in doing so, without fear of reprisal or reprimand. Trust and “NO Blame” are key foundation stones of Doyle Shipping Group’s safety culture; we actively encourage all employees to report accidents and incidents.

Continuous Improvement initiatives allow us to uphold a high level of safety standards and ensure that we are continually striving for increased safety proficiency within our operational activities. Employees are encouraged to submit suggestions for improvement.

Our SHEQ management system utilises a risk-based approach complemented by employee development through coaching, mentoring, and learning programs. These programs are where we encourage our employees to strive for career development, enhancing their health and Safety skills and contributing to a robust, efficient Health and Safety Management system implementation.

International Standards and Certification

Doyle Shipping Group complies with ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001: 2015 – Environmental Management systems and ISO 45001:2018 – Health and Safety Management system.

DSG develop and manage our business operations in line with International Safety Management principles, which ensures DSG are well-positioned to meet and exceed our business partners, contractors, and the general public’s health and safety expectations

Doyle Shipping Group complies with all applicable industry legislation, however, statutory requirements are seen as the minimum standard and we strive to continual improve and maintain “Best Practice” standards.

We are accredited with the world’s leading management systems for quality assurance and occupational health and safety – ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015; and OHSAS 18001:2007.
